Bridging the Gap Between Conservation & Communication

Social media is one of the most effective free tools available to conservation districts. It allows you to share your work, connect with your community, and highlight the importance of local conservation efforts, all in real time.

Whether your district is just getting started or looking to grow, this tiered approach helps you build confidence and consistency at your own pace.

Simple, Flexible Support for Every District

Social media doesn’t have to be complicated. Whether you have a few minutes a week or a few hours, these three levels help you stay connected with your community in a way that fits your capacity.

Level 1: Light Presence

Keep your district visible with minimal time

Time Commitment:
1–2 hours per week

Platforms to Use:

  • Facebook

Why This Works:

  • Maintains a basic online presence
  • Helps your community find you and stay informed
  • Allows you to share important updates without creating a lot of content

What This Looks Like:

  • Share partner posts
  • Post occasional updates or reminders
  • Respond to messages or comments when needed

Level 2: Steady Engagement

Stay active and build community connections

Time Commitment:
3–5 hours per week

Platforms to Use:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram

Why This Works:

  • Keeps your district consistently visible
  • Builds trust through regular interaction
  • Helps expand your reach in the community

What This Looks Like:

  • Post 1–2 times per week
  • Share photos, events, or program updates
  • Engage with partners and community pages (likes, comments, shares)

Level 3: Active Outreach

Grow your audience and tell your story

Time Commitment:
5–10 hours per week

Platforms to Use:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram

Why This Works:

  • Showcases the impact of your district’s work
  • Strengthens community relationships
  • Increases awareness of programs, funding, and conservation efforts

What This Looks Like:

  • Post multiple times per week
  • Share field photos, success stories, and project highlights
  • Promote events and initiatives
  • Actively engage with followers and partners
